The short answer
There is no single best AI waiter. Ordder is the low-cost all-in-one, with its AI Waiter from $79 a month. Butlaroo's Vivi adds voice and payments but publishes no price. AI-Waiter.com suits Square restaurants at $0.01 per AI request. WaiterPilot, by BroadNet.AI, suits chat ordering next to any till at $200 per location per month.
Key points
- We found six AI waiter products that take orders by chat or voice at the table; four publish a price, and Butlaroo and ServAI do not.
- They charge in three ways: a flat monthly fee (Ordder, WaiterPilot), a fee per AI request (AI-Waiter.com) or a share of payments (chatQR.ai, 1%).
- WaiterPilot is the only one of the six that says it has no POS link and takes no payments; that is its main limit, and also why it runs next to any till.
- Butlaroo and chatQR.ai take orders by voice, and Ordder offers an AI phone waiter on its top plan; WaiterPilot is chat only.
- On the pages we read, Toast and Square sell QR order and pay, not an AI waiter you chat with.
On this page
There is no single best AI waiter. There is a best one for what you already run. If you want the till, QR ordering, payment and an AI waiter in one low-cost system, Ordder offers that with its AI Waiter from $79 a month. If you want voice as well as chat and payment at the table, Butlaroo’s Vivi does both, but you’ll need a sales call for a price. If you run Square and want to start free, AI-Waiter.com charges $0.01 per AI request. And if you want guests to order by chat in their own language next to whatever till you have, with setup done for you, that’s WaiterPilot, an AI waiter by BroadNet.AI, at $200 per location per month.
We sell WaiterPilot, so this is a vendor’s list. To keep it fair, the products are in alphabetical order rather than ranked, every competitor fact comes from the vendor’s own page as published on 15 October 2026, and every entry, ours included, ends with its main limit.
What counts as AI waiter software?
Short answer: software that lets a guest at the table ask about the menu and order by talking to it, by chat or voice, instead of tapping through a menu.
The phrase is used for three different things. Search “AI waiter” and you’ll mostly find robots that carry plates, plus old news stories. This list covers none of those. It also leaves out QR menus where guests tap dishes into a cart, even when the vendor calls the menu “smart”. Those are useful, and we compare them on our comparison page, but they don’t hold a conversation.
What’s left is a small group: products where the guest writes or speaks a question (“is the lamb spicy?”, “what comes with the burger?”) and gets an answer, then orders in the same conversation. For a longer definition, see what an AI waiter is.
How did we pick and check these six?
Short answer: every chat or voice ordering product for dine-in that we could find, read on its own site on 15 October 2026.
- Included: products that take dine-in orders through a conversation with an AI, from a table QR code, kiosk or messaging app.
- Sources: each vendor’s own product, pricing and terms pages. For ServAI we found no official site, so its facts come from its AWS Marketplace listing.
- Not tested: we did not sign up for, buy or use the other five products, and we did not ask for quotes. This compares what each vendor publishes, not how well its AI answers.
- Left out: vendors’ own results figures, such as check, tip or time-saved numbers, because we can’t check them.
- Order: alphabetical. WaiterPilot comes last because of the alphabet, not because of a score.

What does each one do well, and where does it fall short?
Short answer: each one wins on one thing and gives something up for it.
AI-Waiter.com: best for starting free on Square
Guests scan a QR code and chat with a menu assistant in the browser, with no app. AI-Waiter.com says it answers allergen, calorie and sourcing questions and suggests add-ons. Orders go to the restaurant’s terminal or to Telegram, and into Square, which is the only POS it lists, for menu import and stock sync. The digital menu costs nothing, and the AI is $0.01 per request after a $10 bonus credit. It says full setup takes under 10 minutes.
The limit: your bill moves with how much guests chat, and the page we read doesn’t say what counts as a request. If you don’t run Square, there’s no POS link. The site names the company only as “AI WAITER SYSTEMS”, with no country. Our AI-Waiter.com comparison works through the per-request arithmetic.
Butlaroo (Vivi): best for voice, chat and payment together
Butlaroo’s AI waiter, Vivi, greets guests, answers menu questions, recommends pairings and takes orders “by voice or chat - in any language”. It runs on QR codes, kiosks, click and collect and a guest app. Its FAQ lists 12 languages, including Arabic, and a separate Butlaroo Pay module takes cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, iDEAL and Bancontact. It names Oracle, Lightspeed and Aloha among its POS links. Butlaroo has offices in Eindhoven and New York.
The limit: no published price; the page says it “depends on your setup”, so you can’t compare cost without a sales call. See Butlaroo vs WaiterPilot.
chatQR.ai: best if you want to replace the POS
chatQR.ai calls itself “The complete Point Of Sale/Kiosk replacement”, with voice and AI ordering by QR code. Payments run through Stripe or Square, and its fee is “1% of collected customer payments”, with the line “We only get paid if you get paid”.
The limit: its site doesn’t state which languages guests can use. Its fee grows with your sales, and it is built to replace your POS rather than sit next to it.
Ordder: best low-cost all-in-one with an AI waiter
Ordder is a browser-based POS: “The till, QR ordering, the kitchen and the floor”. On its Professional ($79) and Enterprise ($199) plans, the AI Waiter answers from the real menu at real prices, asks about allergies first and adds dishes to the cart. Ordder says “The guest menu and the AI Waiter speak the same 23 languages” and “Anything involving money waits for a person to confirm it.” Enterprise adds an AI phone waiter. Every plan has 30 days free.
The limit: the $29 Starter plan has no AI Waiter. Ordder’s terms say that “Unless stated in writing, Ordder will charge a service fee to clients (not merchants) of 1% on processed transaction volume through Ordder, in addition to payment processor fees”, so ask how that applies to you. Ordder is a POS, so using all of it means changing your till; in the US and UAE it offers a guest layer on top of another POS. See Ordder vs WaiterPilot.
ServAI: best if guests should order in WhatsApp or Messenger
According to its AWS Marketplace listing, guests reach ServAI from a table QR code or NFC tag and order through WhatsApp, Messenger or a browser chat, with English, Mandarin, Spanish and French translation and a merchant portal with table layouts.
The limit: we found no official ServAI site and no price, so treat every fact here as unconfirmed by the vendor.
WaiterPilot: best for chat in the guest’s language, next to any till
Guests scan the table’s QR code and the menu opens in their phone’s browser, with no app and no sign-up. They ask and order by chat in their own words; answers come from your menu, and when the menu doesn’t say, WaiterPilot tells them to ask a staff member. For allergies it gives what the menu says and asks the guest to confirm with staff, who always have the final word. Arabic replies come in the dialect you choose. The first order at each table waits for staff to confirm it. Guests can call a waiter or ask for the check from their phone, and see a live bill they can split. Setup is free: we load your menu from a PDF or photos, print your QR cards and train your staff, and most restaurants are live within two weeks of the first call.
The limits: no payments (guests pay your staff), no POS or printer link (staff enter each sale in the till), chat only with no voice, guest buttons in English or Arabic only, and it isn’t the cheapest. We also have no published customer references yet. See pricing and how it works next to your POS.
What about Toast, Square, me&u and other big names?
Short answer: on the pages we read, they sell QR ordering, payment or voice AI, but not a chat waiter at the table.
- Toast Mobile Order & Pay and Square QR code ordering let guests browse, order and pay on their phone inside those POS systems. Neither describes a guest chat, and Toast’s device language setting does not translate menu names or items. We could read no Toast price; Square lists QR code ordering on its Plus ($49) and Premium ($149) plans per location per month.
- me&u lists voice AI among its products, alongside order and pay, but publishes no price or detail on how guests use it.
- TabSquare offers a scan-to-open menu with “smart recommendations”, not a conversation.
- Presto now sells drive-thru voice AI, not dine-in ordering.
- w8r.ai appeared in “AI waiter” news results; we have not checked its site, so it isn’t listed.
What would each cost a restaurant like Casa Olivo?
Short answer: from about $79 to $300 a month on published prices, depending on how each one charges.
Casa Olivo is a fictional restaurant (an example, not a customer) with 12 tables and about 900 dine-in orders a month. Two numbers below are our assumptions, not measured figures: 10 AI requests per order, and an average order of about $33, so roughly $30,000 a month paid through a payment tool.
| Product | What Casa Olivo would pay | How we got there |
|---|---|---|
| AI-Waiter.com | About $90 a month | 900 orders × 10 requests = 9,000 requests × $0.01 |
| Butlaroo | Ask Butlaroo | No published price |
| chatQR.ai | About $300 a month, plus processing | 1% of $30,000 collected |
| Ordder | $79 a month, plus card fees | Professional: 900 orders is over Starter’s 500, and the AI Waiter starts here |
| ServAI | Ask ServAI | No published price |
| WaiterPilot | $200 a month, or $2,000 a year | One location; 0% commission; no card fees from us because we take no payment |
Change the assumptions and the order changes. At 25 requests per order, AI-Waiter.com reaches $225 a month; it matches WaiterPilot’s $200 at 20,000 requests. At $15,000 a month collected, chatQR.ai’s 1% is $150. The tools that take payment also add card processing on every payment, while with WaiterPilot guests pay on the terminal you already have, at your current rates.
Which one fits you?
Short answer: start from your till, then from how your guests want to pay and talk.
- You want one new system for the till, ordering, payment and an AI waiter, for the least money. Ordder, Professional plan.
- Guests should be able to speak their order, and pay at the table. Butlaroo’s Vivi. Ask for a price.
- You run Square and want to try an AI menu chat for free. AI-Waiter.com.
- You’re ready to replace your POS and prefer a fee that only applies when you take money. chatQR.ai.
- Your guests already use WhatsApp or Messenger for everything. ServAI may fit, once you can confirm it with the vendor.
- You want to keep your till, guests often read another language, and you want setup done for you. WaiterPilot.
- Payment at the table matters more than ordering. None of the six is built around that; look at a pay-at-table tool on our comparison page.
Before you sign with anyone, ask the same five questions of each vendor, us included: Is the price per location or per account? What counts as an order or a request? Who has the final say on allergy questions? Do I need to change my POS or payment processor? And what does setup cost, and who does it?
What to do next
Pick two products from the decision guide, ask both vendors the five questions above, and test each one’s chat with a question your guests really ask, in the language they really use. To see WaiterPilot from the guest’s side, try a sample order.
Questions readers ask
What is the best AI waiter software for a small restaurant?
It depends on what you already run. Ordder is the lowest published price for an AI waiter inside a POS ($79 a month on Professional). AI-Waiter.com can cost less at low chat volume if you run Square. WaiterPilot fits if you want to keep your till and have setup done for you, at $200 per location per month.
Which AI waiters publish their prices?
On 15 October 2026, Ordder ($29, $79 or $199 a month; AI Waiter from $79), AI-Waiter.com ($0.01 per AI request), chatQR.ai (1% of collected payments) and WaiterPilot ($200 per location per month). Butlaroo and ServAI published no price.
Which AI waiters take orders by voice?
Butlaroo's Vivi takes orders by voice or chat, chatQR.ai lists voice ordering, and Ordder offers an AI phone waiter on its Enterprise plan. WaiterPilot is chat only.
Do I need to change my POS to use an AI waiter?
Not always. Ordder is a POS itself, chatQR.ai is sold as a POS replacement and AI-Waiter.com works with Square only. Butlaroo lists Oracle, Lightspeed and Aloha. WaiterPilot has no POS link, so it runs next to any till, and staff enter each sale there.
Is an AI waiter a robot?
Not here. Every product in this list is software: guests chat (or speak) with it on their own phone or a kiosk. Robot waiters that carry plates are a different product.
Is this list independent?
No. We sell WaiterPilot, which is on the list. That's why the products are in alphabetical order, every competitor fact comes from the vendor's own pages as published on 15 October 2026 (ServAI: its AWS Marketplace listing), and every entry, ours included, states its main limit.
